Dominican Republic

This is us in front of a church where Jason served for 5 months of his mission, in Bonao...memories. Then we went to La Vega and knocked on the door of his old apartment, thinking the missionaries still lived there, and found all these girls! It was 2 sisters and their kids...all girls! We visited with them for a while and they were really nice. It was fun to see where he lived and fun for him to go back to it all!

While we were there, there was a huge tropical storm and tons, I mean TONS of rain! There was flooding all over and at least a foot and a half of water on all the streets! This is a view of the hillsides as we were driving to the resort in Puerto Plata. Just lovely!

The condo we stayed in ... and the pool at night. It was such a nice place and we had a ball!

This is a painting of the DR that we saw at the flea market down the beach. I wanted to buy it, but they wanted way too much for it (some will bargain 'til desperation sets in, and some won't budge - these guys didn't budge!), so I took a picture of it so Jason can paint it for me! The colors are great! And here's Jas playing horseshoes - we had a good time playing around at this resort, and want to go back someday - with our kids!

This is at the beach of the resort we stayed at in Puerto Plata, DR. We were walking along the beach, past the resort property, and saw these siblings playing in the sand. Jason started talking to them in spanish and they were so beautiful! All I had with me to give them was some cough drops, which they were thrilled about. I wanted to give them something because they didn't ask, and most people there try to get all they can from the tourists. They let us take their picture, and then ran to their dad and gave him a cough drop - So precious! We followed and talked to the dad, too. It was a highlight for us.

This is on the beach of the resort we were at for 3 days of our DR stay. It was close to Christmas, and this huge tree and nativity was at the entrance - made me feel like home!

We attended the beautiful Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Temple - the highlight of the trip! And as we walked the streets of town, passed a KFC that had these delivery mopeds outside - what service!

This is where Christopher Columbus lived for a while...it was his son's house. Really neat to walk around in it - they call it Casa de Colon. Columbus landed here and also discovered many of the Caribbean islands. He is also buried in the DR, and has a huge monument (just a piece of history)!
